Civility Localized Stands Together for Giving Tuesday 2024

Giving Tuesday is December 3, 2024! This global movement dedicated to charitable giving and mutual aid is just around the corner. Here at Civility Localized, we believe in the power of community and giving back. That's why we wanted to highlight some incredible organizations close to the hearts of our team members. This year, we hope you’ll consider joining us in supporting these worthy causes.

Championing Youth:

  • The Relatives: This Charlotte-based youth crisis center provides housing and support for homeless young adults and their families. Christine Edwards, our Founder & Principal Consultant, has a long history with the organization, having volunteered and witnessed firsthand their life-changing impact.

  • GenerationNation: This national organization inspires civic engagement in young people. Christine Edwards, MPA, our Founder at Civility Localized, is passionate about Generation Nation's mission to cultivate the next generation of leaders because she has seen their success first-hand!

GenerationNation hosts civic education opportunities for youth, including this recognition event from 2024. Celebrating the next generation of civic leaders is so impactful!

Promoting Health & Wellbeing:

  • Swim Across America: Joel Quagraine, our Content Specialist, highlights this organization that holds charity swims to raise funds for cancer research and patient programs. This cause is personal for Joel, as both his godmother and aunt battled breast cancer.

  • International Association For Premenstrual Disorders (IAPMD): Shasha Taylor, our Operations Manager, knows the importance of the IAPMD's work. This organization provides vital information and support for those struggling with Premenstrual Disorders.

  • The Brain Aneurysm Foundation: This foundation is close to Shasha's heart as well, as a loved one survived a brain aneurysm. The Brain Aneurysm Foundation conducts research, raises awareness, and assists those impacted by this condition.

Awareness is key! The Brain Aneurysm Foundation helps bring awareness to key demographics.

Building Stronger Communities:

  • Carolina Migrant Network: John Holmes, our Community Engagement Consultant, recommends this local Charlotte nonprofit. They provide legal representation and advocate for immigrants targeted by the Department of Homeland Security.

  • Strong Towns: This national organization works to create better, more livable communities. John Holmes appreciates the tools and knowledge they offer to empower citizens to improve their neighborhoods.

  • Beloved Asheville: This nonprofit in Western North Carolina has been at the forefront of recovery efforts since Hurricane Helene devastated the region in October 2024.

Strong Towns offers opportunities to learn how we can create more livable communities. In this video, they explain how infrastructure impacts community.

Investing in the Future:

  • American Civil Liberties Union: The ACLU is a long-standing organization dedicated to realizing the promises of the United States Constitution for all, and expanding the reach of its guarantees. Another pick from our Brand Manager, this organization is worth supporting any time of year.

  • Children's Defense Fund: This national leader in childhood literacy and civic education is Brand Manager, Elizabeth Flemister's pick for Giving Tuesday. She's witnessed the impact of their summer programs on children who might not otherwise have access to resources like free books, author visits, arts-based field trips, and more.

CDF Freedom Schools National Training prepares college-age educators to deliver culturally responsive and science-based reading curriculum to underserved youth across the US. This training is transformative and often serves as a launching point for career-long passion.

These are just a few examples of the many incredible organizations deserving of support. We encourage readers to explore the causes championed by our team members, and add others that align with your passions.

Let's make a difference this Giving Tuesday! Where would you recommend giving?
